Take advantage of incentives from Medicare E-Rx Act to fund ASP electronic medical records

Medicare legislation has been passed instituting incentives for physicians who use electronic prescribing starting in 2009.

The United States Congress passed the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (H.R. 6331), providing financial incentives to physicians who adopt electronic prescribing (ePrescribing). The act will increase Medicare payments by 2 percent in 2009 and 2010 to physicians who regularly utilize ePrescribing. The increase is slightly less over the next three years. Physicians who do not use the technology would see their payments cut by 1 percent in 2011, and a maximum cut of up to 2 percent for 2013 and beyond.

Bonus Medicare Payments for using Eprescribing:

2009 and 2010
2% Bonus
2011 and 2012
1% Bonus
2013
.05% Bonus

Reduced Medicare payments for physicians who do not use the ePrescribing technology:

2012
1% Reduction
2013
1.5% Reduction
2014
2% Reduction

MMS-hosted EMR options give you ePrescribing and EMR benefits at a fraction of the cost.

With the new Medicare incentives, now is the time to deploy electronic medical records (EMR) to benefit from the ePrescribing bonus as well as the EMR capabilities. Medical Management Systems offers many options for EMR and ePrescribing, including a hosted option for a low monthly fee. By utilizing a hosted EMR from MMS, the cost will be offset by the Medicare bonus, making this a logical time to implement an EMR into your practice. It's a smart way to invest in your practice's success with little to no out-of-pocket cost due to the upcoming incentive by Medicare. The MMS-hosted EMR option is affordable and simple to implement. MMS has many solutions and options to EMR and ePrescribing to fit your practice's needs.

We expect the new Medicare rules to drive continued adoption of electronic prescribing, and because electronic prescribing is the 'on-ramp' to the electronic healthcare highway, we also expect the law to drive adoption of electronic medical records. With ePrescribing as one of its core components, EMR will be eligible for the incentive.
